Mirik, 22nd January: Bimal Gurung faction Gorkha Janamukti Yuva Morcha Mirik slammed several posters in Mirik concerning GTA Chairman and GJM (Binay faction) General Secretary Anit Thapa's the dual citizenship, today.
Speaking on the matter, Vikrant Rai, coordinator of GJYM Mirik sub-division, said that the news published by an e-portal from Nepal claiming Thapa of being a "citizen of Nepal active in Indian politics", is spreading like wildfire in the hills.
Rai further added that the news has gravely affected all Indian Gorkhas living in the hills. He said that although Gorkhas are settled in India for centuries or even before the birth of the nation, every Gorkha faces terrible foreigner’s stigma and severe humiliation all over the country because of their similar caste and facial appearance with that of the people of Nepal. He urged Anit Thapa to clarify all allegations as soon as possible.
As per the information, before his entry in politics, Anit Thapa was working in Dubai. The GJYM leader Vikrant Rai maintained that the GTA Chairman should clarify whether he went to Dubai on a Nepali visa or an Indian visa.
He stated that the posters put up in Mirik today questions the government's step of placing a person with dual citizenship in the administrative position of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. Rai further alleged that it is because of people like Anit Thapa, the entire Indian Gorkha community becomes a victim of an identity crisis and are referred to as foreigners.
