Plastic Bottle Bricks Competition, a step towards plastic-free Bijanbari

Bijanbari, 11th September: Plastic Bottle Bricks Competition is set to be held by the Bijanbari Block Development Office this year, to make the Bijanbari block of Darjeeling plastic-free. The competition, which is being held for the past 3 years, will be participated by 29 self-reliant groups and 1 ICDS team.

Focusing on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and on a quest to find ways to manage non-recyclable waste, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Bijanbari, Kaushik Banerjee, initiated this movement.

In this competition, participants have to stuff 1 or 2 liters of plastic bottles with lots of soft plastic wrappers. Contestants will do this work throughout September and the plastic bottle bricks will be collected at the end of the month. The contestant with the most number of bottles will be rewarded by the BDO on October 2, 2019.
