A man has been arrested with a lorry that was carrying stolen, valuable woods logs in Gardhappa of North Dinajpur, near the Bengal-Bihar border. The man has been identified as Vinod Kumar.
Sources shared that the lorry was stacked with valuable woods of sal, teak and other trees and had been parked in a storage house of a hotel in the area since the last few days. The police of Panjipara Outpost raided the storage house based on inputs from sources to seize the lorry.
But there was no clue of Vinod Kumar found. In an investigation, the police found that the hotel owner had helped him to hide in Khagra of Kishanganj District, Bihar.
During interrogation, Vinod Kumar said that he was taking the vehicle from Silchar of Assam to Darbhanga, Bihar when it was hijacked and brought to the storage house; after which the chief smugglers were contacted through the phone for demanding the ransom.
It has been reported that the arrested lorry driver was presented at the Islampur Mahakuma Court today. Further investigation is being done by the police.
