Cooch Behar, 10th September: Sensation prevailed after a secondary student mysteriously burnt to death inside the ashram located in the Ghughumari region of Cooch Behar. The deceased has been identified as Mahadev Mahato (15), a resident of Ward No. 5 in Cooch Behar. He was living in the ashram, since childhood. His father is dead and his mother, Rita Mahato, works in other people's houses.
The family members of the deceased alleged that the other students of the ashram may have set him on fire. However, the ashram management has termed these allegations as baseless. The ashram management mentioned that the student set himself on fire. Mahadev's family members have lodged a written complaint in the Cooch Behar Kotwali Police Station regarding the incident. The Police have started investigating the incident.
According to sources, Mahadev set himself on fire in the ashram's office before going to school on Monday. The ashram officials later recovered his burnt body and admitted him to the Cooch Behar Government Medical College Hospital, where the student died on Monday night. After this incident, the family members of Mahadev protested in the hospital premises on Tuesday morning.
It has been reported that a fight had erupted with Mahadev over a clock in the ashram. The family members have alleged that he was burnt to death. The Cooch Behar Kotwali Police have started investigating the entire incident. After this incident, the other children living in the ashram are being taken by their families to their respective homes.
