The corpse of a class X student who was missing since Monday evening was recovered from the banks of Torsha river in Cooch Behar on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased’s name is Shantanu Bhattacharya (15). He was a resident of Ravindranagar of Cooch Behar. The primary estimation of the police is that this student has been murdered. The student’s neck has been slit. Police have gathered in on the investigation of the incident.
According to the information received from the sources, Shantanu Bhattacharya, a student of Class X of Cooch Behar Vivekananda University, had left his house on Monday evening, after which there is no clue of him. Shantanu’s family members filed a missing report in this regard in Kotwali police station.
On Tuesday morning, locals informed the police about the incident of a teenager’s body lying dead on the banks of the Torsha river in Harinchowda Chatta Gudiyahati area.
After a while Shantanu Bhattacharya’s family members came to know of the dead body. Shantanu’s glasses were found lying at a distance from the body. After viewing the scenario around the corpse, it is understood that Shantanu was murdered first and his body was dragged and thrown into the river.
After getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and recovered the corpse and sent it to Cooch Behar Government Medical College-Hospital for post-mortem. Shantanu’s father, Brajgopal Bhattacharya, said that his son was very good at studies and other activities as well. This year he was going to give the secondary examination.
