Locals Block Birpara’s Lanka Road To Protest Against Particle Pollution

The locals of Birpara blocked the Lanka Road and the Birpara Hospital Road as they protested against the persistent issue of particle pollution in the area, the majority of which is caused by dolomite dust.

Due to the blockade, long queues of jammed vehicles were seen on both sides of the road on Wednesday. Since the agitated public also protested outside Birpara Hospital, the patients and their families had to face multiple troubles.

The people blamed the countless vehicles that travel via the Lanka Road for the particle pollution in the region. They shared that the reason of the locals being affected by breathing issues is also due to the dust from these vehicles, since it settles in their houses and shops.

Sources shared that the protest was held to bring the administration’s attention towards the issue. The situation later stabilized after the intervention of the In-Charge of the Birpara Police Station, Pankaj Thapa. But the people have planned to intensify the protests after Kali Puja if the issue is not resolved by then.
