Lakhs Of Gold Jewellery Robbed From Homemaker In A Train

A railway passenger's trolley bag was cut open before the gold jewellery kept inside was stolen. The incident took place in the Kolkata-Dibrugarh train that was bound towards Assam.

According to sources, a homemaker named Joyota Pandit Chakrobarty was travelling from Kolkata to Coochbehar for a wedding when her jewellery was robbed in the train. When she filed a written complaint at the Government Railway Police Station, she stated that she was on the seats 58-59 and that there was a man on seat 57. 

Joyota said that the man de-boarded the train at the New Jalpaiguri Station, after which she was all alone in the compartment. When Joyota reached her destination and searched for her gold jewellery, she realized that it was missing.

It has been found that the jewellery was made of around 6-7 tolas of gold; which calculates to a market value of Rs. 3 lakhs. The GRP has commenced an investigation in the case.
