Incessant rainfall triggers landslides in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, July 9: With the arrival of monsoon, Darjeeling and its neighboring regions are experiencing heavy rainfall, triggering several landslides across the district. A portion of Ghaiyabari Tindharia settlement was also washed away by landslides in Darjeeling.

The road, usually taken as an alternative of NH 55, led towards Kurseong through Tindharia  and Giddah Pahar. The landslide occurred near Gairigaun destroying the house of Umesh Pradhan completely.

The Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Centre Kolkata has predicted more rains for Darjeeling and other districts of North Bengal till July 12.  An orange warning has been sounded for the North Bengal districts of the state for July 8, July 11-12. A red warning has been sounded for the same for July 9-10, 2019.
