A fourth-year law college student lodged a police complaint today against a national bank’s branch in Balurghat.
The student, Mamun Rashid hails from Amratala of Harirampur. The allegation against the bank states that they refused to accept coins for the student’s admission fees.
“It was necessary to deposit Rs. 7720 as admission fees for the eighth semester. The concerned authority of Balurghat’s Allahabad Bank branch that is located near the public bus stand, rejected to take Rs. 1000 of the amount since it was fulfilled with coins Rs. 5 and Rs. 10. Today was the last day of admission through the offline mode,” Rashid said.
According to Rashid, the bank authority did not pay any heed to the several pleas that he made. Moreover, one of the bank officials suggested him to either come back with currency notes or to drop the idea of the admission altogether.
“This is the guideline of the Reserve Bank of India to not accept coins,” a bank officer said in their defense.
