Once again, a woman tourist was killed after drowning in Teesta while rafting. The name of the deceased is Kalpana Rathi (55). She was a resident of Maharashtra.
According to sources, 10 couples from Maharashtra had come to visit Sikkim and Darjeeling. On Monday, 9-couples went for rafting in the Teesta river in Malli, Kalimpong. The couple started rafting after dividing theselves into three groups, but suddenly, Kalpana Rathi lost her control and fell from the boat into the river due to the tides of the water.
After this, the guide of the said boat jumped into the river to save her. Kalpana Rathi was taken out from the river to Malli Hospital, where she was later referred to Kalimpong District Hospital. The physicians declared Kalpana dead in Kalimpong district hospital. On the other hand, after this incident, questions are being raised about rafting in Teesta and the safety of tourists. The police is investigating the entire incident.
