The festival of Teej holds the same importance for Nepali married women like Karva Chauth does to the Hindu married women of the country. However, like Karva Chauth, the women fast for the entire day on Teej.
The day was celebrated in many parts of the state, including the city of Siliguri. But this year, the effect of the indefinite strike in the hills reflected on the Teej celebrations.
As compared to the previous years, the festival witnessed dim celebrations. Due to the shutdown of the hills, many essential elements that are required for Teej were unavailable for purchase at the shops and markets.
