Darjeeling Police and Tourism Department organized Darjeeling Hill Marathon

Darjeeling, 10th November: The Darjeeling Hill Marathon was organized today by the Darjeeling Police and Tourism Department with the main objective of attracting tourists, in which participants from not only the Hills and India but also from Kenya and Australia participated. The competition was mainly attended by state tourism minister Goutam Deb, Olympic gymnast Dipa Karmakar, and Olympian Anand Menezes, the race director.
Darjeeling SP Amarnath K. said that the Darjeeling Hill Marathon usually takes place in January, but due to weather conditions it was held in November. A total of 3,500 contestants from Haryana, New Delhi and Karnataka took part in the competition along with countries like Australia, Nigeria, and Kenya.
The marathon was divided into four categories, with the competitive 21 km Half Marathon, 10 km and 4 km two other categories, including Darjeeling Green Run and Run for Education.
In the 21 km category, the runners covered Gandhi Road, INA bypass, Jorebunglow, Ghoom and took a U-turn via Batasia, Motor Stand, Singmari to Chowrasta. In the 10 km category, the runners paced up via Gandhi Road, D.B. Giri Road, Darjeeling Railway Station, Motor Stand and then Tenzing Rock and Darjeeling Zoo Road and reached Chowrasta, while 4 km, the participants ran on the Gandhi Road and reached Chowrastavia Giri Road and then back to Ladenla Road.
