Last year, the Modi led central government had surprised the country by declaring the currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 to be void. The decision, which was heavily criticized, still attracts the fury of many.
To protest against demonetization, 'death anniversary' of the demonetized currency notes was marked by the Darjeeling District Youth Forum in Hashmi Chowk of Siliguri on Wednesday evening.
The members of the Forum offered flowers on the pictures of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes. They also distributed flattened rice, curd and sweets among the people.
Member of the Darjeeling District Youth Forum, Dhiman Bose, said that the currency notes had been killed last year, which is why their death anniversary was being marked.
