A protest was held by the customers by gathering around the ration store after accusing the owner of swindling with ration in Lalbathani of Manikchak, Malda today.
The protesters also locked the ration store. The store dealer, Chinmay Acharya, admitted the allegations against him to be true. It has been found that the customers had repeatedly complained to the dealer, but no action was taken in this regard.
It has been alleged that the dealer has been selling rice at Rs. 12 per kilograms rather than selling it for Rs. 2 or 3 per kilograms. The people shared that they will continue their protest till the government officials act in the case.
On the other hand, Bhattacharya stated that he has not committed any crime. He said that he has been distributing the ration that is being provided by the government. However, he did plead guilty to some of the accusations.
The Manikchak Police reached the site on being notified and took control of the situation. Surjit Pandit, the Block Development Officer of Manikchak, stated through a phone call that the problem will be resolved soon.
