A clash erupted between the tribal people and the land mafia in the Nandajhaday area of Goalpokhar today.
On receiving the news about the incident, the Islampur SDPO and the administration’s senior officials reached the spot to control the situation along with a large police force. The police then held a peace meeting with both the sides and assured them of appropriate action in the case.
It has been found that in 2001, the land mafia had used certain tricks to provide a local tea project with eight bighas of land. Six bighas of the land is currently occupied by the plantation while the rest of it is lying vacant.
Under the banner of the Tribal Land Protection Committee, the people have been roaming around various offices while they demand their piece of land from the last three years.
Since their efforts did not yield any results, the tribal people attempted to seize the land while being armed with bows and arrows.
Reports state that during the time, an argument took place between the tribal people and the land mafia which soon progressed to a brawl.
The situation was stabilized since the police reached in the nick of time. No casualties have been reported in the case.
