Child Marriage Case: Dhupguri Girl Refuses To Stay With Parents

A 16 year old girl who had ran away from her residence to save herself from child marriage in Dhupguri has now refused to stay with her parents.


The teenager, Suman (name changed) is a madhyamik student. She had went to the Dhupguri Police Station and complained that her parents were trying to get her married.

On Tuesday morning, the MLA Mitali Ray and Municipality’s Vice Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh reached the residence of former Councillor of Dhupguri’s Ward-16 Dayamani Ray, where Suman is currently staying.


The duo interacted with Suman for a long time and assured to help her in her further education. Mitali Ray shared that Suman has not become an adult; which is why getting her married at this age is illegal.

On Tuesday evening, Suman went to the Dhupguri Municipality office to meet the officials and submitted a written application for making arrangements for her to stay in the government home.
