Siliguri, July 11: The West Bengal State Administration has been constantly initiating the ‘Safe ride, Save Life’ campaign, but despite of this, a number of road accidents is reported every now and then. Likewise, a bike accident near Rathkhola Rail Gate under Naxalbari Police Station area was reported. The motorbike that was passing through the area lost its control and crashed near Rathkhola Rail Gate severely injuring the rider. The injured, a resident of Hatighisa, was immediately rushed to the Medical College and is undergoing treatment.
India is committed to reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities by 50 per cent by 2020. However, road safety levels have taken a serious hit with the country witnessing one of the highest growth rates of vehicles in the world and rapid urbanization over the years. It is even more disconcerting to know the road accidental deaths of young people in the productive age group, causing substantial loss of productivity to the nation.
