To celebrate the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Amway Darjeeling Police Marathon was held today where the participants braved the cold weather to run in the 21km race from Sukhia Pokhri till Chowrasta.
A joint initiative of the Darjeeling Police and the Amway India Enterprises Private Limited, the Darjeeling Police Marathon is an annual event that is conducted to promote peace and harmony in the hills and also to promote the region as an environment-friendly global tourist destination.
The marathon was open to all participants, both male and female, who fall in the age group of 18 years- 45 years. Along with the sports lovers and fitness enthusiasts, the general public also put on their running shoes for the event.
Winners and runners up were rewarded with cash prizes, medals, certificates and gift hampers with the winner receiving an award of Rs. 1.5 lakh cash. Sources share that the participants ran from Sukhia Pokhri and crossed Lapchey Jagat, Puboong Phata, Ghoom Railway Station, Dali Fatak, Darjeeling Railway Station and other places before concluding the marathon at Chowrasta.
