Siliguri, 5th December: Allegations of various anti-social activities were raised against Uma Mallick, the in-charge of the North Bengal Orphanage, for many days. Once again, allegations have been raised against her for taking Rs 1.5 lakh from a couple, identified as Rajveer Sarkar and Shivangi Sarkar, residents of Bangladesh.
In a press conference held at the Siliguri Journalists Club, the couple stated that they were married about three years ago and were settled in Newtown, Kolkata. They eventually met a woman named Uma Mallick, a resident of Chayan Para, Siliguri, on Facebook. The couple, later, shifted from Kolkata to Siliguri and started staying at Uma's house. The couple alleged that Uma took Rs 1.5 lakh from them and had assured to keep the money safe.
Reportedly, they have a three-and-a-half-month-old baby, whom Uma had conspired to sell. When she failed to succeed in her venture, she, then, planned to kill the couple. Realizing her intentions, the couple left the house on December 5th. However, their money is still in Uma's possession and all the furniture, in Kolkata's flat, has been occupied by Uma’s husband Shyam Mallick, a resident of Kanchrapara. It has been alleged that Uma is, now, refusing to give the money and the furniture back. Based on the entire incident, the couple filed a complaint at the Bhakti Nagar Police station. The couple have demanded that all their money and their furniture be returned to them.
Meanwhile, Uma Mallick stated that when she met the couple on Facebook, she was unaware that they were citizens of Bangladesh. She further denied all the allegations made against her and stated that whatever she did was to help the couple during Shivangi’s pregnancy.
