4 arrested in Siliguri fraud case

Siliguri, 18th October: The Panitanki checkpost police arrested four people on the charges of fraud.

According to sources, a few days ago, a merchant from outside the city visited Bidhan Market in Siliguri to buy some clothes where he met the said 4 individuals. They informed the trader that they had many sarees that they were going to sell at very low prices. Then the trader bought all the sarees from them for Rs. 50,000. Meanwhile, after taking the money, the 4 men told him that they would not sell the sarees anymore. Therefore they took back the sarees and returned the money to him. Later, when he went through the cash, he noticed that only the 2 hundred rupees note placed at the top was real and the rest were fake currencies.

The man then filed a written complaint at the Panitanki checkpost. The police launched an operation and arrested the four men, identified as Shipu Roy(37), a resident of Iskon Road, Girij Sarkar Prasad(50), a resident of Dangi para, Manoj Giri(48), a resident of Jhapa Nepal and Sher Bahadur Giri(49), a resident of Ektiasal from Hillcart road area.

The arrested were produced at the Siliguri court today. The judge ordered them a five-day police remand.
