Siliguri, 2nd October: Based on a tip-off, the officials of the Central Intelligence Revenue Department launched a covert operation in the Champasari area around 6 am and arrested 2 persons identified as Amarjit Singh and Jyoti Sharma, residents of Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 6.541 kilograms of opium worth 19,63,300 rupees were recovered from their possession.
Reportedly, the officials nabbed them when they were traveling on a bus holding an Assam number.
Upon police interrogation, it was found out that the arrested were on a plan to smuggle the opium in Jammu and Kashmir which they were carrying it through the route of Siliguri.
The arrested were produced at the fast court of Siliguri court today and tomorrow they will again be presented before a NDPS Special Court Judge of the Siliguri Court.
