Two Van Drivers Caught By Locals For Dumping Waste In Raiganj’s Kulik River

BY SILIGURI TIMES CORRESPONDENT Oct 13, 2017

Two van drivers were caught red-handed by the locals when they arrived to dump garbage in the Kulik River of Raiganj in North Dinajpur.

It has been alleged that three vans had come to the river for dumping rotten food and other waste that had been collected from a bakery in Subhashganj.

The locals protested against the waste dumping and notified the voluntary organizations as well as the police. The secretary of the Himalayan Mountaineers Trekkers Association, Kaushik Bhattacharya, shared that they have been protesting to keep the River Kulik clean since a long time.

“We have organized multiple cleanliness drives to keep the river pollution free. We are trying to contact the owner of the bakery from where all the waste is constantly being dumped. We have also filed a written complain at the police station in connection to this,” Secretary Kaushik Bhattacharya shared.
