Rangpo: Santro Falls Into Teesta, 2 IRBn’s Rescued, 3 Missing
A private Santro car lost control and fell 400 feet down in the Teesta River near the Sikkim Distilleries Limited Factory in Kumrek, that falls under the Rangpo Police Station. The accident took place at half past two in the afternoon today.
It has been reported that out of the five IRBn’s that were travelling in the vehicle, two have been rescued while the other three got engulfed in the high water current of the river.
The two soldiers were rescued with the help of the Rangpo Police and the fire brigade department. The two are South Sikkim’s resident Puran Pradhan and West Sikkim’s Gyaltchen Tamang.
With the help of a drivers’ organization, Puran and Gyaltchen were taken to the Rangpo Primary Health Center. They are currently being treated and are said to be out of danger.
As per the news, the five IRB soldiers were travelling from West Sikkim’s Piplay to East Sikkim’s Rodathang to participate in a football game.
Because of the strong water current, the vehicle floated 800 feet away from the spot it fell and reached till the Rangpo market.
The three missing IRBn’s include Piplay’s resident Tashi Pintso Bhutia, Neema Gyatso Bhutia and Sailesh Gurung.
A rafting party led by Praveen Rai is currently on the search for the three soldiers.
