One dead, five injured in road accident near Siliguri

SILIGURI: A person died and five others sustained injuries during a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup on Thursday afternoon near the Gailkhola and Likhubhir area, around an hour away from Siliguri, under the Teesta Check Post on National Highway 10.
According to sources, the truck was heading towards Siliguri from Singtam in East Sikkim while the pickup was heading towards Malli located on the West Bengal and Sikkim border along the Teesta river.
The truck travelling at high speed hit the pickup from right side and turned on its left side. The truck was carrying two other passengers apart from the driver. Rajen Bhatarai was sitting on the left side and sustained serious injuries.
Police arrived at the spot and took the accident victims to Teesta Primary Health Centre for preliminary check-up. However, the personnel at Teesta PHC declared Rajen brought dead. The rest were sent to Kalimpong Hospital for further treatment.
