Islampur’s Court Gives Life-Sentence To CPI(M) Leader’s Murder-Accused
After nine years, the accused who were responsible for killing Karandighi’s CPI(M) leader Arshad Ali have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Islampur Fast Track Court today.
The government advocate of the Islampur Court, Mukhtar Ahmed and Senior P.P. Abul Hussein shared that Arshad Ali had been attacked on the head with an iron rod on November 23, 2008. The police had arrested Sentu Ali, Nabav, Taimur Sheikh and Imam Sheikh in connection to the case.
Based on the statements of 23 witnesses, the court sentenced the accused to life-imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs. 25,000 each. An extra time of 1.5 years gets added to the life-sentence if the accused fail to pay the fine.
Arshad Ali was a well-reputed leader of Karandighi who was murdered due to his transparency and honesty.
