CM announced the establishment of three development boards for the people of hills
SILIGURI: CM Mamta Banerjee inaugurated the UttarBanga Utsav at the school ground of Goethals Memorial in Kurseong yesterday. In the inaugural function, she announced the establishment of three development boards for the backward communities and minorities groups.
The three development boards have been established for Khas, Gurungs and hill-based minority groups that include Muslim, Christian, Bengali and Hindi-speaking people. With these, the number of boards in the hills has gone up to 15. Till date the Central Government has given a total sum of Rs 268 Crore for the development of the Darjeeling Hills.
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha said that the creation of these various boards for different communities will result in clashes among these communities which shall disturb the peace of the region.
Seven eminent personalities were awarded the Bangaratna at the hands of the CM Mamta Banerjee. These awardees were felicitated with a sash, citation and a sum of one lakh rupees.
Kalimpong has been declared as a district and Mirik has been declared as a sub-division. CM will be coming to Kalimpong next month in regard to this matter.
